Web Apps

Application Portals

NextCloud Tons of apps like notes, file manager with sharable links (plain or password-protected), photo manager, password manager, e-mail portal, and dozens of other helpful apps. A very complete organizer package that is entirely free and not too difficult to install and maintain.

Development Portals

GitLab The same front-end that powers the gitlab.com web site. There are paid and free versions.

E-Commerce

Product Notes
Magento Acquired by Adobe. Adobe Magento pageGithub page It looks a lot more complicated than it used to be.
Odoo Downloads pagehttps://github.com/odoo/odoo • They indicate Debian, Ubuntu, and RPM packages are available, but for those you need to provide your contact information.
TurnkeyLinux LxCt in Proxmox did not work, Apache “failed to set up mount namespacing”.
OpenCart Downloads page says it is available on Github, so it is likely very “privacy friendly” (e.g., no “commercial prospecting”). Only needs PHP 5.4+ — it does not give an upper limit, but it seems unlikely that such a complex app would work with everything from 5.4 to 8.3, so probably it is intended for things like RHEL that are still using old PHP versions. Their site offers modules for sale on the download page, which makes it seem like you might end up spend a hundred or two to get it working nicely, but all things considered that may be quite reasonable.

TurnkeyLinux LxCt in Proxmox did not work, Apache “failed to set up mount namespacing”, but installing in a normal VM worked fine.
OSComerce Downloads pageRequirements page says it supports PHP 7.0 through 8.0, so if you are using 8.1 it appears it is not ready for that.
PrestaShop Downloads page has agreements including one that says, You can object to commercial prospecting here, but clicking on “here” simply launches your e-mail app rather than saying what they mean by that. Sounds a little creepy.
Zen Cart Downloads pageRequirements pageGithub releases page
Version 2.0 supports PHP 7.3 through 8.3, although their releases page says this version is not yet released.
Version 1.58 supports PHP 7.3 through 8.3 with version 8.1 being recommended.
TurnkeyLinux LxCt in Proxmox did not work, but installing in a normal VM worked properly.

Video

YouPHPTube A video hosting platform.

Web Mail

Roundcube Mail A slick web-based e-mail front-end application. It's not as fancy as the giant (Y, M, and G) mail portals, but it is a huge improvement over what was available for free ten years ago. A good-looking interface, good search functionality, easy to configure, etc. Overall very good, and you don't have to worry about privacy and lengthy contract terms because you are the one in charge.

Web Content Managers

Dokuwiki Dokuwiki is a terrific platform on which to organise internal documentation for your company and a rather decent way to launch a good looking web site that is fairly easy to maintain. Pages are stored in ordinary text files, making it easy to search, backup, restore, etc. and eliminating the need for a database server. The end result is not very flashy — e.g., no fancy effects like fading between slides — but its ease of maintenance make it well suitable for small businesses who want a free platform that can be maintained in-house.
Drupal A powerful and modular web site framework that has a lot of flexibility. I know of at least two very large enterprises that use it for their web foundation. It requires a database server and is considerably harder than Dokuwiki to setup, but has a lot of modules (free and paid), themes (free and paid), and other plug-ins that can greatly enhance the features of a web site.
Pimcore A sophisticated content management platform that is harder than others to install, but offers commensurate flexibility and features. This section was never completed.
WordPress Installation Notes The ubiquitous standard for web content management.
